Syracuse hosted more than three dozen prospects on campus, and we spoke to four of them.
Syracuse welcomed over three dozen recruits on Saturday during its ACC showdown with Duke.
Although the Orange fell 38-3, the coaching staff still had the opportunity to connect with prospects and make their pitches in person.
Here’s how four of the visiting recruits reacted to their time on campus.
2027 RB Xavier Bala (NY)
Bala, one of the top prospects in New York State, holds offers from Syracuse, Connecticut, UMass, and others. The Melville (NY) St. Anthony’s standout noted that Syracuse ranks “high” on his list and appreciated the chance to strengthen his relationships with the Orange coaching staff.
“It was great, other than the loss,” Bala said. “I got to spend time with a lot of the coaches.”
He spent the most time with assistant running backs coach Devin Redd and head coach Fran Brown.
“We talked about life and what it means to be a good leader,” Bala explained. “They also walked me through run schemes and how I’d fit into their system.”
2028 QB Brady Quinn (FL)
Quinn first visited Syracuse during Franchise Camp in the summer of 2024, where he picked up an offer from the Orange to go along with a list that already included Louisville, Kentucky, Missouri, UCF, Maryland, and several others. He returned to Central New York this past weekend.
“The trip was great,” Quinn said. “I had an amazing time. Can’t wait to come back.”
Although Syracuse’s offense struggled on Saturday, the Naples (FL) First Baptist standout has taken note of the program’s track record of explosive offenses under offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon.
“I feel like Coach Nixon uses the quarterback really well,” Quinn said. “They throw the ball a lot, and I like that. You can see the success they’ve had with McCord and Angeli and the big numbers they’ve been able to put up.”
2027 WR Austin Busso (NJ)
Busso earned an offer from Syracuse after attending Franchise Camp in June, and this past weekend marked his first return to Central New York.
“The trip was great,” Busso said. “I loved it. The crowd was electric.”
The Oradell (NJ) Bergen Catholic athlete noted that he spent the most time with quarterbacks coach Nunzio Campanile and wide receivers coach Myles White.
“Both gave me some really good advice,” Busso added.
2028 EDGE Osiris Niven (MA)
Niven picked up his first collegiate offer from Syracuse in June after competing at Franchise Camp, and he’s remained in steady contact with the Orange staff ever since.
“It was amazing,” Niven said. “The coaches made me feel welcomed and cared for.”
He spent much of his time with EDGE coach Nick Williams, who spoke candidly about Syracuse’s loss to Duke.
“We talked about bouncing back since they had just lost and I had dropped my game on Friday night,” Niven said. “We both knew we needed to come back stronger in the next one.”
