New York Knicks on the Verge of Major Trade Steal of the Century

The New York Knicks could make a trade before the start of the NBA season.

The New York Knicks are one year removed from making waves across the NBA with their blockbuster trade for Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

While another major move isn’t expected before the season begins, a smaller deal could still be in play. According to ESPN insider Bobby Marks, New York may look to make a trade within the next two weeks before opening night.

“After strengthening their bench this offseason by signing Guerschon Yabusele using the tax mid-level exception, the Knicks are now hard-capped at the second apron,” Marks explained.

“This limitation could push New York to trade one of its 2024 draft picks—either Tyler Kolek or Pacome Dadiet—if the team intends to keep veterans Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet. Even though they’re above the first apron, the Knicks can still include cash in trades and currently hold eight second-round picks. Moving Dadiet’s $2.8 million contract would free up space for the team to add a 15th player later in the season.”

The Knicks started Pacome Dadiet in their preseason opener against the Philadelphia 76ers in Abu Dhabi, sparking speculation among fans and analysts about the team’s true intentions — whether they genuinely plan to develop the second-year forward or are showcasing him as potential trade bait.

Dadiet’s profile makes him an appealing target for other teams. At 6-foot-8, he brings length, defensive upside, and versatility — traits that are highly valued across the league.

While his game remains somewhat raw, Dadiet’s physical tools and potential are undeniable. However, with the Knicks focused on a veteran-heavy rotation built to contend, his path to consistent playing time is narrow. If the organization believes he can contribute meaningfully, he needs steady minutes to develop. Otherwise, moving him in a trade could be the most logical option.

Regardless of how the situation unfolds, New York is expected to make some form of roster adjustment — and it’s likely that at least one player anticipating a full season with the Knicks could end up being the odd man out.
