Lions Make Multiple Roster Moves Ahead of Matchup With Chiefs
The Detroit Lions announced several roster changes as they began preparations for their Week 6 showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Dan Skipper Elevated to Active Roster
Veteran offensive lineman Dan Skipper, who began the 2025 season on the practice squad, has officially been signed to the 53-man active roster. Skipper, who has battled injuries early in the year, is now healthy and ready to contribute, especially if Taylor Decker remains sidelined.
Khalil Dorsey Placed on Injured Reserve
Cornerback and special teams standout Khalil Dorsey has been placed on injured reserve, sidelining him for the foreseeable future. Dorsey had recently recovered from a serious leg injury sustained last season, but is now facing another extended absence.
Lions Thin at Cornerback
The Lions are dealing with a depleted secondary. Terrion Arnold is nursing a shoulder injury and D.J. Reed is already on IR with a hamstring issue. While Arnold has not yet been placed on IR, his availability is still being evaluated. Head coach Dan Campbell noted that the team is optimistic but continues to monitor his recovery timeline.
Arthur Maulet Joins Practice Squad
In need of depth in the secondary, Detroit signed cornerback Arthur Maulet to the practice squad. The team had previously attempted to sign veteran Michael Davis, but those efforts fell short.
Maulet, a veteran defensive back, entered the NFL in 2017 as an undrafted free agent with the Saints, and has since played for the Colts, Jets, Steelers, Ravens, and Texans. He was released by Houston during final roster cuts this year.
More Secondary Help Added
Over the past few weeks, Detroit has bolstered its defensive back group with the additions of Nick Whiteside, Tre Flowers, and now Maulet. Erick Hallett also continues to develop on the practice squad.
With the Lions likely looking to reinforce their nickel cornerback position, these moves could be part of a larger plan to shore up the defense in the coming games.
Campbell: “Next Men Up Must Be Ready”
In his weekly appearance on 97.1 The Ticket, Dan Campbell emphasized how important it is to prepare backup players for bigger roles.
“We give those guys a ton of reps,” said Campbell. “We run ones versus ones, twos versus ones — outside of the scout team — just to make sure everyone is ready. It’s all about team preparation.”
As the Lions prepare for a tough test against the Chiefs, they’ll be leaning heavily on their depth — especially in the secondary.
