Oklahoma City Thunder Sign Former Alabama Standout: Roll Call Update

Here’s your daily update on Alabama Athletics, complete with TV listings.

After going undrafted out of Alabama, Chris Youngblood faced long odds to make it to the NBA. That challenge became even tougher when he was picked up by the Oklahoma City Thunder—last year’s NBA champions and one of the league’s deepest teams both at the top and in the G-League.

However, Youngblood impressed throughout the summer and fall, earning the team’s final two-way contract, officially announced Saturday. In the Las Vegas Summer League, he posted solid numbers: 12.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He continued his strong play in the preseason, averaging 14.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.0 steals. His performance has made waves within the team, even catching the attention of MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who recently wore Youngblood’s jersey on Instagram.

Under the two-way deal, Youngblood will split time between the Thunder and their G-League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue—one of the top squads in the league. That gives him a real shot at chasing championships at both levels this season.
