Dolphins Release Tight End Before Bills Matchup
The Miami Dolphins made another roster adjustment ahead of their Week 10 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, releasing tight end Tanner Conner on Thursday.
Conner, 27, played in 33 games (one start) for Miami since joining the team in 2022, tallying 12 receptions for 107 yards during his time with the Dolphins. His departure leaves Julian Hill and Greg Dulcich as the only tight ends currently on the active roster. The team could opt to promote Chris Myarick or Hayden Rucci from the practice squad if needed. Hill, however, remains limited in practice after missing two games due to an ankle injury. No corresponding roster move has been announced.
From Receiver to Tight End
Conner entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Idaho State in 2022, where he was a First Team All-Big Sky wide receiver and standout track and field athlete. His athleticism earned him a spot on Bruce Feldman’s annual “Freaks List” of the most athletic players in college football.
After making the Dolphins’ 53-man roster as a rookie, Conner spent the 2023 season on the practice squad before rejoining the active roster in 2024. This year, the 6-foot-3, 237-pound tight end recorded nine catches for 91 yards in nine games. If he goes unclaimed on waivers, Miami could re-sign him to their practice squad.
Tight End Depth Remains a Concern
The Dolphins continue to navigate the absence of Darren Waller, their top tight end, who remains on injured reserve with a pectoral injury. Waller, who returned from retirement this season and posted 10 catches for 117 yards and four touchdowns in his first four games, cannot return until Week 13.
Until then, Miami will rely on Dulcich and Hill to hold down the position as the team looks to rebound from a 2-7 start and a minus-63 point differential, the fourth worst mark in the AFC.
