Pitt (2-0) wraps up its three-game season-opening homestand on Monday night, hosting Eastern Michigan (1-0) at the Petersen Events Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., with Jason Earle and former Panther Nelly Cummings — older brother of current Pitt guard Brandin Cummings — calling the game on ACCNX. Radio coverage will air on 93.7 The Fan, featuring play-by-play from Bill Hillgrove and analysis from Curtis Aiken.
This matchup marks the fifth all-time meeting between Pitt and Eastern Michigan, with the Panthers leading the series 3–1. Their last encounter came in 2016, when Pitt prevailed 93–90 in a thrilling double-overtime battle at the Petersen Events Center. EMU’s lone series win was a 67–62 victory in Ypsilanti back in 1982. The two programs also met in the first round of the 1988 NCAA Tournament, where No. 2 seed Pitt claimed a 108–90 win behind standout performances from Charles Smith (31 points), Demetreus Gore (24), and Jerome Lane (22 points, 17 rebounds).
Both teams enter Monday’s contest unbeaten — Pitt at 2–0 and Eastern Michigan at 1–0, with all three combined wins coming by double-digit margins. EMU opened its season with a 71–49 victory over Georgia State. The Panthers are aiming for their third straight 3–0 start, having opened the past two seasons with strong winning streaks — including a 4–0 start to the 2023–24 campaign and a 6–0 run last year.
