Alabama Named a Finalist for Elite 2027 Tight End Malik Howard
The Tennessee standout recently visited Tuscaloosa for a game day trip.
With the early signing period for the 2026 class approaching, Alabama has already turned its attention to building momentum for 2027. This week, four-star tight end Malik Howard of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, announced his top six schools on social media, listing Alabama alongside Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Miami, and South Carolina.
At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, Howard is rated the No. 11 tight end in the 2027 class and the No. 8 overall prospect in Tennessee, according to the 247Sports composite. He has visited each of his finalists this fall, most recently traveling to Tuscaloosa on November 8 to watch Alabama’s win over LSU.
Howard is a big-bodied pass catcher with a wide catch radius, making him a dangerous weapon in virtually any offense. Over his sophomore and junior seasons at Oak Ridge High School, he recorded 85 receptions for 1,167 yards and 17 touchdowns. This season, he helped guide his team to a 9–1 regular-season finish and a spot in the state playoffs.
Although Howard likely won’t make a final decision anytime soon — with his senior season still ahead — Alabama clearly made an impression on the talented tight end.
For now, the Crimson Tide hold four commitments in the 2027 class, none at tight end. Landing Howard would not only significantly strengthen the class but also fill a potential future need for Kalen DeBoer and his staff.
