Elite In-State WR Benny Easter Jr. Explains His Commitment to Texas Tech
Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire and his staff scored another major recruiting victory Thursday night.
After visiting Lubbock over the weekend, Benny Easter Jr. — the No. 5 wide receiver in the 2027 class according to Rivals — announced his commitment to the Red Raiders. He now joins a Texas Tech recruiting class currently ranked No. 1 in the nation.
“Just the way they approach winning fits me perfectly,” Easter said. “And their passing offense.”
As Texas Tech continues its push toward a Big 12 title and a College Football Playoff berth, the team features the nation’s No. 8 offense and No. 4 scoring offense. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Easter believes he’ll thrive in that system once he arrives on campus.
“They wanna win,” he emphasized. “It shows me the kind of winning program it will be when I get there.”
Easter, a standout at Humble (Texas) Summer Creek, chose the Red Raiders over offers from Houston, Kansas, and several others. Rivals ranks him as the No. 39 overall prospect in the 2027 cycle.
General Manager James Blanchard led the charge in recruiting Easter to Lubbock.
“It was the amount of love they showed so early,” Easter said of what sealed the deal.
Across the last two seasons, Easter has totaled 121 receptions for 1,981 yards and 26 touchdowns — production the Red Raiders hope he’ll bring with him to Lubbock.
