LSU doubles up on defensive line commitments

In a noteworthy move, LSU secured commitments from two defensive linemen on July 5, both hailing from different states.

Brandon Brown, a Florida native, and Damien Shanklin, from Indiana, both committed to join the Tigers on the same day. Shanklin, who stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs 245 pounds, opted for LSU over offers from Ohio State and Alabama.

Shanklin, who currently plays for Warren Central High in Indianapolis, IN, is rated as the fifth-best EDGE rusher in the nation by 247 Sports.

Meanwhile, Brown, initially committed to the Texas Longhorns, decided to change his commitment to join Brian Kelly and the Tigers at LSU.

Brown, hailing from Melbourne, FL and playing for Eau Gallie High School, measures 6 feet tall and weighs 290 pounds. Rivals ranks him as the 24th best defensive lineman in the country.

Both commitments are seen as significant victories for the new defensive line coach, Bo Davis, who previously worked at the University of Texas.

In the past two days, LSU has secured three commitments for their defensive line. One of these commitments came from Zion Williams of Lufkin, TX, who pledged on July 4th.

LSU’s recruiting class of 2025 now boasts 15 committed players. According to the On3 recruiting site, LSU is ranked fourth in the nation.
