Houston Basketball Rebounds and Rolls Past Notre Dame
After an overtime win and a tight loss to open the Players Era Festival, Houston basketball closed the event with an impressive, controlled victory over Notre Dame.
The Cougars topped the Fighting Irish 66–56 on Wednesday afternoon inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, finishing the tournament 2–1 while gaining valuable experience against quality opponents.
Next, UH returns home for the Houston Hoops Showdown, where it will face Florida State at the Toyota Center at 7 p.m.
Houston vs. Notre Dame Recap
Senior guard Emanuel Sharp, who struggled offensively against No. 17 Tennessee, bounced back in a big way. He scored 11 points in the first half and finished with a team-high 17 points, along with five rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Senior guard Milos Uzan also came out strong, putting up 11 first-half points. He ended the day with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and three made threes.
While Houston’s top performers set the tone, the Cougars’ depth ultimately sealed the win.
Houston used 12 players on Wednesday, a huge asset as conference play approaches.
Senior guard Ramon Walker Jr. provided a major spark off the bench, contributing nine points, four rebounds, two assists and a block. Senior forward Kalifa Sakho was another key reserve, scoring six points with a block in just 10 minutes of action.
Sophomore guard Mercy Miller added four points, four rebounds and forced a late turnover in limited minutes.
However, Houston’s freshmen—who have been vital early this season—had a quiet outing, combining for only five points.
What’s Next for the Cougars
For Houston to hit its ceiling this season, increased production in the paint and finding a steadier offensive rhythm will be crucial. In all three tournament games, the Cougars endured extended scoring droughts that allowed opponents to close the gap.
Still, it’s only November, and Kelvin Sampson has a deep, talented roster. Expect Houston to look much more polished by the time March Madness arrives.
