Former Reds All-Star Reaches Agreement With Rangers

The announcement came Friday night. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, former Cincinnati Reds All-Star closer Alexis Díaz has signed a one-year contract with the Texas Rangers.

Díaz spent his career in Cincinnati appearing in 196 games, recording 75 saves, 227 strikeouts, and a 3.21 ERA across 193⅓ innings. He finished fifth in Rookie of the Year voting in 2022 and earned an All-Star selection in 2023, though his performance declined significantly this past season.

After posting a 12.00 ERA in six April outings for the Reds—striking out three batters while issuing five walks over six innings—Díaz was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 29 in exchange for minor league pitcher Mike Villani.

He made nine appearances with the Dodgers before being designated for assignment and later claimed by the Atlanta Braves. Díaz pitched in three games for Atlanta, allowing three runs without surrendering a hit but walking five batters, which ultimately led to his removal from the Braves’ 40-man roster.

Passan’s full post can be seen below:

In addition to signing catcher Danny Jansen to a two-year, $14.5 million contract, the Texas Rangers are also in agreement on one-year contracts with right-handed reliever Alexis Díaz and left-hander Tyler Alexander, sources tell ESPN. @ByRobertMurray had the Jansen news first.
