Texas Tech Lands Four-Star TE Matt Ludwig in 2026 Class
Four-star tight end Matt Ludwig from Billings (Mont.) West has committed to Texas Tech as part of the 2026 recruiting cycle.
Ludwig, who was previously signed with Michigan, will enroll early in Lubbock. He becomes the 21st pledge in head coach Joey McGuire’s 2026 class, which the Rivals Industry had previously ranked 22nd nationally.
Future tight ends coach Josh Cochrane led Ludwig’s recruitment after the prospect was released from his letter of intent with Michigan earlier this week. Ludwig quickly shifted his focus to Texas Tech, a program he has visited multiple times throughout his recruitment.
Ludwig cited the strong family atmosphere within the program and his belief in the direction of the Red Raiders under McGuire as key factors in his decision.
“I’ve built a great relationship with Coach Cochrane and really love the energy Coach McGuire brings every day,” Ludwig has said previously. “The family environment within the program really stands out.”
Ranked by the Rivals Industry as the No. 9 tight end nationally and the No. 200 overall prospect, Ludwig brings elite athleticism to the Red Raiders. During his senior season, he recorded 50 catches for 736 yards and 10 touchdowns.
His head coach, Rob Stanton, has spoken highly of Ludwig’s ability and character, praising his explosive athleticism and unselfish approach to the game. Stanton emphasized that Ludwig’s primary focus is winning, regardless of how often the ball comes his way, describing him as a rare, generational talent with a team-first mindset.
