Another Significant Update Emerges for Tennessee Football
The NCAA transfer portal will be open from January 2–16, 2026.
Ahead of Tennessee’s bowl matchup with Illinois on December 30, Volunteers redshirt freshman defensive back Marcus Goree Jr. announced his intention to enter the transfer portal.
“I’m grateful to God for the opportunity to attend and play at the University of Tennessee,” Goree Jr. said in a statement. “I truly appreciate the relationships I’ve built during my time here. With that said, I’ll be entering the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining.”
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive back appeared in four games for Tennessee during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, recording two tackles.
A Cleveland, Tennessee native, Goree Jr. played at Bradley Central High School and chose the Volunteers over offers from Michigan, Nebraska, Colorado, and Michigan State.

Tennessee is set to take on Illinois in the Music City Bowl on December 30. The matchup between the Volunteers and Fighting Illini will kick off at 5:30 p.m. EST at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
