Oilers Emerging as Prime Destination for Star Winger

The Edmonton Oilers made a major move last week by addressing their goaltending situation, acquiring Tristan Jarry from the Pittsburgh Penguins in a multi-player trade.

To bring in Jarry, Edmonton sent goaltender Stuart Skinner, defenseman Brett Kulak, and a 2029 second-round pick to Pittsburgh, while also receiving forward Sam Poulin in the deal. The trade filled one of the Oilers’ most pressing needs, and Jarry has shown encouraging results so far, posting a 10–3–1 record with a .908 save percentage and a 2.69 goals-against average in 15 games this season.

Even with the upgrade in net, Edmonton may not be finished reshaping its roster. A clear area for improvement remains the top six, where the Oilers could benefit from adding another high-end winger. Bringing in that type of player would make the team even more dangerous offensively.

Because of this, Edmonton has been identified as a leading potential destination for one of the NHL’s most intriguing trade targets.

Edmonton Linked to Sabres Star Alex Tuch

In a recent piece for The Score, John Matisz named the Oilers as one of the top landing spots for Buffalo Sabres winger Alex Tuch, alongside the Carolina Hurricanes.

According to Matisz, Edmonton is in need of a top-six winger — particularly a right-handed shot who can skate, create offense, and thrive next to Connor McDavid. Tuch recently highlighted his impact by scoring an overtime goal against the Oilers on the road.

Tuch appears to be a natural fit in Edmonton’s lineup. He could slot seamlessly alongside McDavid or form a lethal combination with Leon Draisaitl, significantly boosting the Oilers’ offensive firepower in either role.

Through 31 games this season, Tuch has recorded 11 goals, 17 assists, and 28 points with a plus-2 rating. He also reached the 36-goal mark in two of his previous three seasons, underlining his potential to be a game-changing addition if acquired.

Sabres Facing Key Choice on Tuch’s Future

Buffalo is approaching a critical decision regarding Tuch. With the team sitting near the bottom of the Eastern Conference and Tuch set to become an unrestricted free agent, the Sabres must determine whether to commit to an extension or explore a trade.

If no extension is in place by the trade deadline, Buffalo may be forced to move him rather than risk losing him for nothing. Should that happen, Edmonton would likely be one of the teams closely monitoring the situation, though any deal would require a significant return for the Sabres’ star winger.
