Alabama Football Adds Tight End via the Transfer Portal

Alabama football has made its first move in the transfer portal, landing a tight end from the Big 12 to bolster its roster.

According to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, Oklahoma State tight end Josh Ford has committed to the Crimson Tide, marking Alabama’s first transfer addition of the 2026 cycle.

Ford saw action in 16 games with the Cowboys, totaling 13 catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Although the transfer portal does not officially open until January 2, Ford was granted early entry following Oklahoma State’s decision to part ways with head coach Mike Gundy in late September.

The 6-foot-6, 244-pound tight end appeared in four games this season before redshirting, allowing him to preserve eligibility. He is expected to enroll at Alabama as a redshirt sophomore for the upcoming season. To this point, Ford is Alabama’s lone portal addition this offseason, and the program has not had any players announce transfer intentions ahead of its College Football Playoff matchup with Oklahoma.

A three-star recruit out of Stillwater High School in the Class of 2024, Ford was ranked as the No. 108 tight end nationally and the No. 23 overall prospect in Oklahoma. His most notable performance came against Tulsa during his freshman campaign, when he recorded three receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown.

Alabama’s current tight end group includes freshmen Kaleb Edwards and Marshall Pritchett, redshirt freshman Jay Lindsey, sophomore Jack Sammarco, and redshirt junior Danny Lewis. However, the Tide are expected to lose several players at the position—Josh Cuevas, Peter Knudson, Brody Dalton, and walk-on Peyton Fox—to graduation at the end of the season, making Ford a timely addition to the room.
