Auburn CB Jay Crawford Intends to Enter Transfer Portal
Auburn starting cornerback Jay Crawford has confirmed to On3 that he plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Crawford started 18 games during his time with the Tigers and is expected to draw significant interest as a transfer option.
Crawford made an immediate impact as a true freshman in 2024, earning SEC All-Freshman honors along with recognition as an On3 True Freshman All-American. His early success positioned him as one of Auburn’s most promising young defensive backs.
During his first season on the field, Crawford recorded 15 tackles, one interception, seven pass breakups, and eight total passes defended. He followed that up with a comparable sophomore campaign in 2025, finishing with 15 tackles, one tackle for loss, an interception, four pass breakups, and five passes defended.
Crawford is among several players who have announced plans to leave Auburn in the wake of the program’s recent coaching change, as multiple Tigers have begun exploring opportunities elsewhere.
More Departures From the Plains
Crawford is not alone in entering the portal, as offensive tackle Seth Wilfred has also decided to move on from Auburn. Wilfred recently completed his second season with the Tigers and will be seeking his third college destination.
Wilfred joined Auburn from the junior college ranks under former head coach Hugh Freeze. He appeared in just one game during the 2024 season, seeing action against Alabama A&M, and did not log any additional appearances afterward.
Before arriving on the Plains, Wilfred played at Snow College, where he earned NJCAA All-American honors in 2023 and emerged as one of the top JUCO offensive line prospects in the country. He drew interest from multiple Power Conference programs, including Big 12 schools Arizona State and Iowa State, before ultimately committing to Auburn.
Auburn offensive line coach Jake Thornton spoke positively about Wilfred during the preseason, noting his size, athletic traits, and long-term potential with additional development.
With Crawford’s decision, Auburn now has 13 players who have announced their intent to enter the NCAA transfer portal as roster movement continues following the coaching transition.
