Duke Making Headway with Three Top In-State 2027 Wide Receiver Recruits

Duke head coach Manny Diaz has made significant strides in recruiting since taking over the program, but the Blue Devils have historically struggled to land the state’s top talent. However, they appear to be changing that in the 2027 recruiting cycle, as Duke is reportedly becoming a strong contender for three of North Carolina’s top wide receivers.

Duke’s Progress with Three In-State Wide Receivers

Duke has extended offers to several 2027 prospects from North Carolina, but the program has particularly made notable progress with three wide receivers: four-star Anthony Roberts, three-star Vermont Carmack, and three-star Jonathan Dillon. Here’s a breakdown of each player and where Duke stands in their recruitment.

Anthony Roberts
Anthony Roberts is a four-star wide receiver from Rolesville High School in Rolesville, North Carolina. According to Rivals’ Chad Simmons, Duke and Virginia are currently the frontrunners for Roberts, with the receiver having made over 10 unofficial visits to Durham. “Duke and Virginia played for the ACC Championship recently, and those two schools lead for 2027 wide receiver Anthony Roberts,” Simmons reported. Roberts is ranked as the No. 358 overall player in the 2027 class, the No. 50 wide receiver, and the No. 13 prospect in North Carolina.

Vermont Carmack
Vermont Carmack, a three-star wide receiver from Dudley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, is also drawing attention from Duke. Simmons reports that Duke, Louisville, Miami, and West Virginia are the schools currently standing out in Carmack’s recruitment. “Vermont Carmack has Duke, Louisville, Miami, and West Virginia high on his list,” Simmons noted. Carmack is a versatile athlete, with offers to play both wide receiver and safety. He is ranked as the No. 858 overall player, the No. 115 wide receiver, and the No. 30 prospect in North Carolina.

Jonathan Dillon
Jonathan Dillon is a three-star wide receiver from Southern High School in Durham, North Carolina, and is another player that Duke has made significant progress with. Simmons notes that Duke is currently in a strong position for Dillon, who enjoyed watching the offense during his game-day visit to Durham. “Duke is off to a good start with 2027 wide receiver Jonathan Dillon,” Simmons wrote. Dillon is ranked as the No. 429 overall player, the No. 58 wide receiver, and the No. 16 prospect from North Carolina.

With these three players trending toward Duke, the Blue Devils are in a promising position to strengthen their wide receiver corps in the 2027 class.
