Latest Update: Oklahoma State earned commitments from multiple positions out of the transfer portal

Oklahoma State adds five transfer portal commits in final weekend before dead period

During the final weekend when schools could host transfer portal prospects in 2024, Oklahoma State had a successful haul.

The Cowboys secured commitments from LSU cornerback J.K. Johnson, New Mexico State offensive lineman Louie Canepa, and Charlotte safety Mordecai McDaniel. Additionally, sources told GoPokes that two prospects—Utah State tight end Will Monney and Purdue wide receiver Shamar Rigby—are likely to sign with Oklahoma State.

With these recent additions, the Cowboys have now reached a total of 15 commitments from the transfer portal.

Johnson, a four-star recruit from the 2021 class, started his career at Ohio State before transferring to LSU after the 2022 season. Unfortunately, injuries have limited his playing time at both schools. He stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 185 pounds, and he has two years of eligibility remaining.

Canepa is making the move to Stillwater to follow his former offensive line coach, Andrew Mitchell. The 6-foot-4, 320-pound lineman from New Mexico State has accumulated over 1,100 snaps in the last two seasons, earning starts at both right guard and right tackle.

McDaniel, another defensive back with Power 5 experience, was coached by Oklahoma State’s new defensive line coach Ryan Osborn at Charlotte and spent one season under defensive coordinator Todd Grantham at Florida in 2021. Last season with the 49ers, he recorded 43 tackles, two for loss, a sack, and three pass breakups.

As Oklahoma State leverages the connections and experience of its new offensive coaching staff, both Monney and Rigby offer valuable experience and depth at key positions for the Cowboys.

Monney, originally from Springville, Utah, has played in 22 games over the last two seasons, posting 11 receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown as a true sophomore this year. The tight end is 6-foot-4 and weighs 230 pounds, with two seasons of eligibility left.

Rigby, a freshman from Florida, stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 187 pounds. In his first year at Purdue, he played in every game, tallying 11 catches for 113 yards.

In addition to these five transfers, the Cowboys also received commitments from UTEP defensive lineman Kyran Duhon and North Texas tight end Oscar Hammond on Friday.

These new additions contribute to Oklahoma State’s overall efforts to rebuild their program following a challenging 3-9 season in 2024.
