The Colorado Buffaloes have received more disappointing news as top defensive tackle Chidozie Nwankwo has officially declared for the NFL Draft. Nwankwo, who transferred to Colorado from Houston in December 2023, is the latest Buffalo to make the leap to the next level.

A high school signee in the 2020 class, Nwankwo began his college career at Houston, where he played in 40 games over four seasons. During his time with the Cougars, he recorded 94 tackles, 13 tackles for loss (TFLs), and four sacks. Upon transferring to Colorado, Nwankwo brought a much-needed presence to the Buffs’ defensive line after Deion Sanders’ first season as head coach.

In his lone season with Colorado, Nwankwo appeared in 11 games, posting 32 tackles, five TFLs, and 2.5 sacks. Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 290 pounds, his game relies on his strength and ability to clog up the middle of the line, often requiring multiple blockers to contain him.

Though he may start his NFL career as an early-down player, Nwankwo still needs to refine his pass-rushing abilities. He is expected to be a late-round draft pick, though he could also turn into a valuable undrafted free agent if he isn’t selected.
