Ohio State Buckeyes Offer Elite QB Ahead of Playoff
Class of 2025 quarterback, Derrick Baker, announced on social media that he received an offer from Ohio State football on his first day back at school after winter break.
Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 220 pounds, Baker capped off 2024 with a state championship at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Now, as he enters 2025, he’s drawing interest from top programs across the nation, including the Buckeyes.
Though he has yet to visit Ohio State, Baker expressed a desire to see the campus in 2025, calling the stadium a “beautiful place.” In addition to Ohio State, he’s garnered offers from southern U.S. schools and Big Ten teams like Indiana, Maryland, and Illinois.
Baker considers his size, arm strength, and field awareness as key strengths, alongside leadership qualities that helped lead his team to a state title. He acknowledges areas for growth, such as improving his throwing mechanics, footwork, and ability to throw on the move. He’s also focusing on enhancing his pocket mobility, recognizing that while perfection isn’t achievable, there’s always room for improvement.
On film, Baker showcases a blend of finesse and strength in his throws, along with strong pocket presence, which has caught the attention of programs like Ohio State.
Driven by his passion for football, Baker is eager to improve and succeed. “The most exciting thing is being able to experience football with my teammates, watching all of us go to college and perform,” he said.
Baker is confident in his ability to contribute at Ohio State. “I would be that guy for Ohio State,” he declared. “I am that guy. I think we can be great.”
