The Utah Hockey Club announced on Friday afternoon that forward Dylan Guenther will be out indefinitely due to a lower-body injury. In response, Utah has called up forward Josh Doan from their AHL affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners. Guenther has been impressive this season, sitting just one point away from surpassing his career-high of 35 points from last year. His last appearance was on Wednesday night during a 4-1 defeat against the Florida Panthers, where he recorded a -3 rating and two shots on goal. Utah head coach Andre Tourigny mentioned that the injury occurred as a result of a collision with Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov.

Dylan Guenther Out Due to Injury
With 16 goals this season, Guenther is Utah’s top goal scorer and has accumulated 34 points while averaging 16 minutes of ice time. Doan, an AHL all-star, only managed two points in nine games with Utah before being reassigned to Tucson. He will replace Guenther on the second line and contribute to the first power play unit.
Guenther has been a crucial player for Utah. The 21-year-old winger has a shoot-first approach, contributing to his career-high shooting percentage of 16.3. He ranks second among Utah players with nine goals at even strength and has already tallied 98 shots on goal this season. However, Guenther’s absence will be most felt on the power play. He leads the team with seven power play goals and has nine power play points, placing him third on the team.
What It Means
The forward has developed a solid connection with Logan Cooley, who plays center for him. Together, they have combined for 15 goals, making their line the second highest-scoring in Utah, with a total of 256 minutes spent on the ice together. Utah’s starting goaltender, Connor Ingram, recently returned from a lengthy absence, but now the team will be missing one of its key forwards. Guenther’s injury is not season-ending, but he is expected to be sidelined for some time.
