It’s been a year of frustration and change for Iowa Football Sensation, season-ending injury gives new perspective
IOWA CITY, Iowa– It’s been a challenging year for Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara. The former Michigan starter transferred to Iowa with hopes of revitalizing its offense, but a series of issues, including his health, prevented that. For the second consecutive year, McNamara faced injury problems, specifically a torn ACL, which could be a heavy burden for many. However, McNamara remains resilient.
“The toughest part has been psychological,” McNamara said about his torn ACL. “I’ve had to battle with myself, questioning why this happened again or what led to this injury. But I’ve experienced significant spiritual growth over the past few months, which has given me a new perspective on life. Honestly, I’m very thankful for what has transpired, and I believe this year will be life-changing for me.”
McNamara spoke to the media with confidence but was also reflective and open about his journey over the past 10 months. Knee injuries can cause players to second-guess their movements and technical aspects of the game. Fortunately, McNamara’s extensive football experience has helped him feel assured that this won’t be an issue.
“I feel like I’ve moved past the hardest part. When people talk about the mental challenge of an ACL injury, it’s about rebuilding trust in your body,” McNamara added. “Through a lot of rehab and working on cutting and change of direction, I’ve developed that trust.”
McNamara mentioned that he will be wearing a knee brace during games this season. While he doesn’t want to, his doctors strongly recommend it. He hasn’t been wearing the brace during workouts and has no fear of it. The brace is intended to help protect his surgically repaired knee
