Certainly Not a Surprise-Los Angeles Chargers’ key free agent wants to return

The Los Angeles Chargers face several important decisions regarding free agency this offseason, but one might be easier than others: a key cornerback is eager to return to the team.

With the 2025 NFL Draft just months away, the focus across the league is on free agency, where teams will begin building for the next season. For the Chargers, one of their biggest decisions will be whether to re-sign Khalil Mack. However, they will also have to address multiple defensive positions, particularly cornerback, as they face the loss of several players to free agency.

Cornerbacks Asante Samuel Jr. and Kristian Fulton are both set to hit free agency, with Samuel’s future with the team uncertain at the moment. However, Fulton has expressed a strong desire to return. In the 2024 season, Fulton, a fifth-year cornerback, recorded one interception and 42 tackles, although he did allow three receptions in the Chargers’ lengthy postseason game.

The cornerback market is competitive in the 2025 free-agent class, with bigger names like Carlton Davis potentially available. Still, re-signing Fulton as a depth option would be a valuable move for the Chargers, especially if they aim to maintain continuity with defensive coordinator Jesse Minter for another season.
