Former Stanford OL Trevor Mayberry Details Final Mississippi State Decision: “The Future is Certainly Bright”
Mississippi State picked up portal commitment number 24 earlier today when former Stanford offensive guard Trevor Mayberry made the call.
Trevor Mayberry’s journey has been a winding one. After an impressive high school career at Jesuit High School in Florida, the Tampa native initially chose Penn for college. However, two years into his time with the Quakers, Mayberry decided to transfer to Stanford, where he contributed to the Cardinal’s efforts during the 2023 season.
Unfortunately, Mayberry suffered an injury before the 2024 season that sidelined him for the entire year. With his degree in sight and a redshirt year to use, he decided to explore the transfer portal once again. This time, Mississippi State and Virginia Tech were among the schools courting him. After an official visit to Starkville, Mayberry committed to the Bulldogs, becoming the 24th member of their transfer class.
“I’ve made my decision, and I’m going to Mississippi State,” Mayberry said. “I see a lot of potential there. Coach (Jeff) Lebby is very passionate, and everyone around the program is optimistic. No one is down about last season. There’s a lot of excitement for the future, and the portal class coming in will really help the program.”
During his visit, Mayberry got to know the Mississippi State experience and coaching staff better. Offensive line coach Phil Loadholt played a key role in his decision.
“Talking with the offensive line coach, I think he’s a great pick-up. He’s experienced and I’m looking forward to learning from him,” Mayberry explained. “The whole staff really made me feel positive and optimistic. I even spoke with the strength staff, nutritionist, and athletic trainers. They’re all fully invested in Mississippi State football, and it’s clear their focus is on helping players improve.”
Mayberry was impressed by the community feel in Starkville, mentioning that everywhere he went had a Mississippi State flag, creating a sense of pride and connection with the town.
He’s excited to challenge himself in the Southeastern Conference. “When I played for Stanford, I felt my best games came against top competition. What better way to challenge myself than facing SEC players every week? It’s the best conference, and the competition will make me a better player.”
Mayberry is wrapping up his degree at Stanford and plans to graduate in early March. After graduation, he will head to Starkville to begin his new chapter with the Bulldogs.
“I’ll finish up at Stanford in March and head to Starkville right after. I’ve already started the enrollment process, so it’ll be a smooth transition. I’m ready to start right away and become a Bulldog.”
