Former Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby recently posted on Instagram expressing his thoughts on the Chicago Bears hiring Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as their new head coach.
“Ben Johnson as the #chicagobears next head coach! You bring that Pizzazz Ben!,” Crosby captioned a video from his podcast, “Kickin’ it With Crosby.”
Johnson is staying in the NFC North, but with another Green Bay Packers rival
The announcement of Ben Johnson agreeing to a deal with the Chicago Bears followed Detroit’s playoff elimination last Saturday at Ford Field, where they were defeated by Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders.
Despite the Lions’ early playoff exit, Johnson made a significant impact as the mastermind behind Detroit’s explosive offense, which led the NFL in 2024 with an average of 33.1 points per game. The Lions also ranked second in total offense, averaging 415.7 yards per game.
Mason Crosby, who spent 16 years with the Green Bay Packers, appeared enthusiastic about the Bears’ decision to hire Johnson. Chicago reportedly interviewed up to 17 candidates for the head coaching position, including Johnson, who also had discussions with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, and New England Patriots.
The Bears are in need of a coaching boost after a season in which they finished 28th in the league, averaging only 18.2 points per game.
