Just In: “Ideal signing”, Patriots Could Land Saints Star CB

Patriots Could Target Saints’ Star Cornerback

The New England Patriots might emerge as a prime landing spot for New Orleans Saints cornerback Paulson Adebo when NFL free agency opens.

After a decline in their defense last season, the Patriots are expected to allocate some of their cap space to strengthening their roster in the coming months.

One position where they particularly need improvement is cornerback. With Christian Gonzalez as the primary option, the Patriots lack depth at the position.

This has led David Latham of Last Word On Sports to identify New England as a potential destination for Adebo.

“Christian Gonzalez, the 2023 first-round pick, was the standout on New England’s defense last year, performing like a top-tier cornerback throughout the season,” Latham noted. “Now, the Patriots need to add depth and find a reliable partner for him. Paulson Adebo could seamlessly fill the CB2 role and, with the Patriots leading the league in cap space with a staggering $120 million, he won’t break the bank.”

Adebo, a standout free agent this March, is a 25-year-old cornerback who had a shortened season in 2024 due to a broken femur but still recorded 52 tackles, three interceptions, and 10 passes defended in just seven games.

The Stanford alum was drafted by the Saints in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, quickly becoming an integral part of their secondary. As a rookie, he posted 66 tackles, three interceptions, and eight passes defended. Despite his importance to the Saints’ defense, New Orleans’ challenging financial situation may prevent them from re-signing him.
