BIG RAPIDS – The Ferris State University softball program, along with head coach Jake Schumann, has recently revealed the 2025 recruiting class, marking Schumann’s first complete class since he became head coach in January 2023.
This eagerly awaited group of student-athletes is expected to have a significant influence both on the field and within the program, contributing a wealth of talent and a collective dedication to the core values that have shaped the team’s culture under Schumann’s guidance.
The 2025 recruiting class features a remarkable array of talent across all positions, including infielders, outfielders, pitchers, and hitters. This diverse and well-rounded group will enhance the team’s depth and flexibility, ensuring the program’s ongoing success and competitiveness for years ahead.
“We are extremely thrilled to welcome this outstanding group of student-athletes into our program,” stated Coach Schumann. “Not only are they exceptionally skilled on the field, but they also embody the values we prioritize—drive, integrity, respect, and trust. These young women are eager to contribute to the team’s success and are dedicated to advancing the culture we’ve diligently built since my arrival.”
Beyond their athletic abilities, this class has already shown a dedication to academic excellence and community leadership. With a shared focus on academic success, personal development, and the pursuit of greatness, the 2025 class will surely uphold the tradition of strong character and high performance that Coach Schumann has emphasized since he first joined the program.
“I am confident that this class will leave a lasting legacy, both on the field and in all their roles as representatives of our program,” Coach Schumann added. “They’ve already proven that they are prepared to make a difference—on the field, in academics, and as leaders within our community. This is a class that will continue to enhance the culture we’ve worked so hard to cultivate.”

The new recruits will collaborate with a committed group of returning players to form an even stronger, more competitive team for the upcoming season and the future.

Katie Shuboy; P, Richmond, Mich.
“Katie is the pitcher we were hoping to find! She is a fierce competitor with a mix of spin, speed, and pinpoint accuracy. A true game-changer, we expect great things from Katie. She has been named a three-time 1st Team All-Stater and has led her high school team to state championships and her club team to Nationals. Katie plans to major in Radiography.”
Emma Herremans; 3B, Ravenna, Mich.
“Emma is a genuine Division 1 talent who has the capability to be integrated into the heart of our lineup right away. She has earned titles such as MLive Muskegon Area Player of the Year, Catchmark Player of the Year, and has been recognized as a three-time All-Stater and a two-time Regional Champion. Additionally, Emma has achieved all-conference status in both bowling and volleyball. A standout student, she intends to major in Biology with a focus on Pre-Physical Therapy.”
Kennedy Wangler; Outfield, Gaylord, Michigan
“Kennedy is another Division 1 prospect and a two-time State Champion who offers a dependable left-handed bat and a powerful arm in the outfield. She has been an All-Region performer on a team with several Division 1 commitments, making her a valuable addition to the Bulldog family, where she’ll be joined by her sister Addison. Outside of sports, Kennedy is an academic All-Stater and a member of the National Honor Society, with plans to major in Biology.”
Sophia Helm; 1B, Swartz Creek, Mich. (Linden HS)
“Sophia has consistently impressed me every time I’ve watched her play, starting from her first camp in 2023. She possesses excellent skills at first base and has a powerful batting ability. Last spring, she recorded a batting average of .451, with 8 home runs and 46 RBIs for her Linden HS team. Sophia is a two-time First Team All-Flint Metro selection and has been named All-District twice. Additionally, she excels in archery, having qualified for both the Archery Nationals and Worlds in 3D and Bullseye through N.A.S.P. She plans to pursue a degree in Pre-Pharmacy.”
Brenna George; C, Dubuque, Iowa (Dubuque Senior HS)
“Brenna is a tall and athletic catcher from Iowa, with the ability to hit for power on any swing and an impressive pop time behind the plate. She will enhance an already strong catching lineup. We expect Brenna to earn her playing time by demonstrating consistency both defensively and offensively.”
Molly Versluis; Grand Rapids, Mich. (Unity Christian HS)
“Molly is a tall and athletic shortstop who can excel in any position on the field. She embodies the determination we seek in our recruits and will certainly be a strong contender due to her grit. She has earned All-Conference, District, and Regional honors three times and has been selected for the West Michigan Dream Team on two occasions. Additionally, she’s recognized as one of the top 20 infielders in District 2 by MaxPreps. Molly has led her Unity Christian team to three appearances in the state tournament. Academically, she is outstanding, having been named Academic All-Conference three times, and she plans to major in Sports Medicine.”
