Suns’ Devin Booker’s All-Star Snub Called ‘Political’ by Teammates

The Phoenix Suns were disappointed to see star guard Devin Booker left out of the 2025 NBA All-Star Game. Despite his standout play, Booker didn’t make the list of either starters or reserves for the Western Conference, which surprised many given his talent, even though the Suns’ overall start to the season has been rocky.

Kevin Durant, Booker’s Suns co-star and a starter in the All-Star Game, believes Booker’s omission was driven by politics. Durant shared his thoughts, saying:

“You know how politics are,” Durant explained (h/t Duane Rankin, The Arizona Republic). “We’re in a narrative-driven game, and sometimes it doesn’t really matter what you do on the court. You’ve got to sell your play, sell your personality a little, and Book’s not really that type of person.”

Durant added, “If you don’t follow his game, you’re not going to get much from him. It’s unfortunate, but that’s the nature of the game. I wish it wasn’t so political, but we all know he’s an All-Star-caliber player, an MVP-caliber player, and a Hall of Fame-type player who can do anything on the court. I’d love for him to be there with me, but knowing Book, he doesn’t need that validation.”

Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer also voiced his support for Booker’s All-Star snub before their game against the Golden State Warriors, stating:

“To me, Devin is clearly an All-Star in our league. He’s one of the top two guards and top players. There are always tough decisions with so many great players, which shows how talented the league is. But we feel clearly that he’s an All-Star. He plays like one every night.”
