The Marshall Thundering Herd secured a narrow victory against the Old Dominion Monarchs, winning 42-35 on Saturday night, which helped them stay ahead of Georgia Southern in the Sun Belt Conference East.

Following the important win, attention quickly turned when the ESPN broadcast caught one Marshall player getting involved in a confrontation with a staff member in the end zone.

Defensive back Josh Moten has been named as the player involved in the incident with the ball boy after the game. The ball boy seemingly attempted to knock a football out of Moten’s hands while he was exiting the field.

Following this, the ball boy was observed in a shoving match with another player from Marshall.

Moten issued an apology following the game.

“I’m sorry for what happened after the game yesterday,” he posted on X on Sunday. “That doesn’t reflect who I am. It was an intense game, and emotions got the better of me in the moment. I apologize to ODU and my team for taking attention away from an excellent game.”

In the game, Moten recorded five total tackles and intercepted a pass from Old Dominion quarterback Colton Joseph in the first quarter, marking his fourth interception of the season.

The junior defensive back transferred to Marshall in 2023 after a brief period at Texas A&M.

Marshall has an overall record of 8-3 this season and is currently riding a five-game winning streak after falling to Georgia Southern earlier in the year. That loss remains the only mark against their conference record.
