Florida Gators Secure Major Recruiting Victory Before National Signing Day by Swaying Key Prospect from Rival
The Florida Gators have once again made a strong push in recruiting. Ahead of National Signing Day, head coach Billy Napier has successfully flipped three-star cornerback Onis Konanbanny from Tennessee. This is a significant achievement for the Gators, especially considering they managed to land him from a fierce rival.
Florida’s recruitment efforts on Konanbanny have been intensifying in recent months, and it paid off. According to Gators Online, his recruitment began when Corey Raymond was still part of the coaching staff. Although Florida wasn’t initially seen as a contender for his commitment, they made their offer in 2023 when Raymond was on board, and the first visit to Gainesville took place that November. However, it wasn’t until his final day on campus that strong rumors started circulating about a potential flip.

Konanbanny decided to hold off on signing in December, continuing close communication with the Gators. This led to secondary coach Will Harris visiting him at the start of the contact period and persuading him to make one last trip to the Swamp on January 17. That final visit ultimately solidified his commitment to Florida.
Konanbanny becomes the 26th commit in the Gators’ 2025 recruiting class, which is currently ranked 11th nationally and 8th in the SEC, according to On3 Sports. He is also the fourth defensive back in the class, bolstering Florida’s defensive backfield significantly.
