The trade situation involving David Jiricek seems to be nearing its conclusion, but the Vancouver Canucks are no longer in the running. NHL insider Frank Seravalli from Daily Faceoff reported that the Canucks will not pursue the unhappy Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman. Speaking on Sportsnet 650, Seravalli indicated that a trade involving Jiricek is likely to happen soon, but specifically excluded Vancouver from the discussion.
He mentioned, “The phone has been buzzing. It seems like this is a relatively imminent transaction… This could be processed [on Monday].” When asked which team might acquire Jiricek, he confirmed, “Not the Vancouver Canucks.” Jiricek, who was the sixth overall pick in the 2022 NHL draft, has been a focal point of trade talks as the Blue Jackets consider multiple offers for the 6-foot-3, nearly 21-year-old player. After being demoted to the AHL last season and again last week, he is seeking a new opportunity.
Seravalli noted that Columbus is evaluating “five to six credible offers” for Jiricek, and a trade announcement seems imminent. “The Blue Jackets are still reviewing their options,” he said. Currently, the Canucks are 16th in the NHL standings with a record of 10-6-3 after 19 games, sitting fifth in the Pacific Division. They have performed well on the road with a 7-1-0 record but have struggled at home, holding a 3-5-3 record.
