49ers Star Open to Steelers Trade
The Pittsburgh Steelers are actively seeking wide receiver help this offseason, and a new trade candidate has emerged. The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly allowed Deebo Samuel to explore potential trade opportunities, which could bring the 29-year-old wide receiver into the Steelers’ sights.
Samuel, who has one year remaining on his current contract, may require a contract extension with any new team. However, his 2025 cap hit is set to be just $15 million, plus the cost of whatever a team would give up in a trade.
A source from another NFL team has revealed that Samuel and his agent, Tory Dandy, are “absolutely” planning to reach out to the Steelers, making Pittsburgh a prime candidate if there’s mutual interest.
The Steelers had previously shown interest in acquiring Samuel’s teammate, Brandon Aiyuk, last summer, but Aiyuk ultimately signed an extension with the 49ers, leaving Pittsburgh with no deal. During those talks, the Steelers inquired about Samuel’s availability, signaling their interest in him as well.
This past season, Samuel played in 15 games, recording 51 catches for 670 yards and four total touchdowns. Known for his ability to both catch passes and run the ball, Samuel would bring versatility to the Steelers’ offense. This is a skillset Pittsburgh had hoped to tap into with Cordarrelle Patterson last season, using him in multiple roles, including wide receiver and kick returner.
If the Steelers pursue Samuel, they could similarly utilize him in various positions. As the offseason unfolds, it remains unclear whether Pittsburgh plans to wait for more options or move quickly to secure a deal for one of San Francisco’s standout wide receivers.
