Could the New England Patriots part ways with running back Rhamondre Stevenson in a surprising roster move? As the team prepares for a busy offseason and aims to return to playoff contention, major roster changes are on the table.
The Patriots have several areas they could address, but one unexpected move that has been suggested is cutting Stevenson. Jaren Kawada of ClutchPoints has proposed that the running back could be on the chopping block.
Is it a reasonable idea for New England to move on from Stevenson? That’s a tough question. Over his career, Stevenson has struggled with fumbles, even being benched during the 2024 season by Jerod Mayo due to this issue.
With Mike Vrabel now in charge, it’s unlikely the team will tolerate such mistakes. New England might consider making a change ahead of any further issues.
However, a cut seems unlikely. Stevenson is still a talented back and has provided solid production for the Patriots. In the 2024 season, he played in 15 games, rushing 207 times for 801 yards and seven touchdowns. Though he had six fumbles, three of which were lost, he remains only 26 years old and under contract through 2026, with a potential out in that year.
It’s more probable the Patriots will give Stevenson another year to prove himself. Cutting him would be a major surprise, and if he continues to struggle with fumbling, the team may reconsider next offseason
