Panthers Linked to Seahawks Veteran Who Could Aid Bryce Young
Could Tyler Lockett be a target for the Panthers?
The Carolina Panthers are likely looking to improve their wide receiver group ahead of 2025, as their current roster at the position was lackluster at times last season. However, finding the right fit could be tricky, as players like Tee Higgins may be too costly, Keenan Allen is getting older, and most of their draft resources may need to go toward strengthening the defense.
This likely means that general manager Dan Morgan and the front office will need to explore more affordable options to help support quarterback Bryce Young. Luckily, a reliable veteran receiver could become available, and the Panthers are reportedly being urged to consider Tyler Lockett.
Panthers Could Target Tyler Lockett
Anthony Palacios from Last Word on Sports suggests that the Seattle Seahawks might part ways with long-time star Tyler Lockett. While Lockett has been dependable for Seattle, the team now has DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba as the primary receiving threats, and their contracts are becoming more expensive. Moving on from Lockett could help the Seahawks save money.
If that happens, Palacios believes the Panthers could be a good fit. “It’s hard to predict exactly what the Panthers will need to build a legitimate offense around Bryce Young,” Palacios writes. “Last offseason, they traded for Diontae Johnson and drafted Jonathan Mingo, but neither panned out, leaving Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker as the only reliable options for Young. Signing Lockett to a veteran, low-cost deal could help bring some much-needed experience to the offense.”
Adding Lockett would give the Panthers a dependable receiver while still allowing them to focus on bolstering the defense. Given Lockett’s age, he would likely sign a one-year deal, meaning he and Adam Thielen could both become free agents next year. This would push the Panthers’ need for a true WR1 to 2026, when stars like DK Metcalf, Deebo Samuel, Terry McLaurin, Ja’Marr Chase, or Drake London could be available. By then, the Panthers would likely have a stronger defense and more cap space to address the receiver position.
