Klara Peslarova made a surprising appearance in net for the Boston Fleet this weekend, stepping in when least expected and leading her team to victory. Initially listed as the backup goalie, Peslarova entered the game after a tough start from starter Emma Söderberg. Söderberg had struggled in her previous games against Minnesota, and after allowing a few goals, Fleet head coach Courtney Kessel decided to make a change to keep their chances alive.
Peslarova, who was sitting in the locker room enjoying an orange when she was called to enter, didn’t let the unexpected opportunity faze her. “I was just eating my orange and thought I needed to finish it quickly,” Peslarova said. “I was zoned in and just focused on being ready for the team.”
In her two periods on the ice, Peslarova stopped all 15 shots she faced, becoming the first goalie in PWHL history to win in her debut appearance. She also made history as the first goaltender to win after entering as a relief for the starting goalie.
Peslarova’s performance came as no surprise to Fleet fans, who have been eager to see her in action since the team signed her. The Czech National Team’s starting goaltender, Peslarova has represented her country in the Olympics and six IIHF Women’s World Championships. She was also invited to Boston’s training camp earlier in the season and previously played in the SDHL. Her playing style mirrors that of Aerin Frankel, the Fleet’s regular starting goalie, which has made her an exciting addition to the team.
