What Louisville Head Coach Pat Kelsey Said After 71-66 Victory at Virginia Tech
BLACKSBURG, Va. – It wasn’t the prettiest performance, but it was still a win.
After a fast start against Virginia Tech, the Louisville men’s basketball team had to fight to hold on for a 71-66 victory. Despite the struggle, they managed to come out on top, leaving Cassell Coliseum with the win.
“Virginia Tech deserves a lot of credit. I have a great deal of respect for Mike Young… Every time you play against him, it feels like you’re being dissected. He’s an incredible tactician. His players play with a lot of effort. I thought they really battled us tonight. We don’t often get outworked on the boards, but they beat us there. So, a big tip of the cap to them.”
Louisville shot 45.2% from the field, but struggled with three-pointers, hitting only 6 of 23. Virginia Tech shot 43.1%, but made 11 of 26 from beyond the arc. Four Cardinals scored in double figures, with Chucky Hepburn leading the way with 15 points.
“I give our players a lot of credit for being resilient, gritty, and tough because that’s exactly what kind of game it was,” Kelsey said. “I like to think that good teams find a way to win those kinds of games. We haven’t been in many close, situational games like that recently, so it was really good for us.”
