The New York Knicks have suffered a significant blow with the injury of rookie center Ariel Hukporti.

Hukporti, who recently made his first career start, sustained a torn meniscus in his left knee, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The injury occurred during his debut start on Wednesday night, where he recorded 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 block.

Hukporti is expected to be sidelined for 4 to 6 weeks, which could potentially keep him out for the rest of the regular season and limit his availability until the playoffs.

With the Knicks already struggling with depth at the center position, losing Hukporti is a major setback. While Mitchell Robinson is expected to return this weekend, Hukporti was seen as a key backup in case Robinson’s injury flared up again, making his absence a tough challenge for the team.

The Knicks currently have an open 15th roster spot, and Hukporti’s injury may prompt the team to sign a center to bolster their depth.
