Butler, 24, enjoyed a breakout season in 2024, the Athletics’ final year in Oakland. The Burlington, N.J. native posted an impressive .262/.317/.490 batting line, with 22 home runs and 57 RBIs, improving on his performance from a 42-game stint in 2023.

Since relocating to Sacramento and with plans to move to Las Vegas by 2028, the team has shown an increased willingness to invest in its roster. This includes a three-year, $67 million deal with pitcher Luis Severino on December 6.

The Athletics are scheduled to begin their 2025 season on March 27 against the Seattle Mariners.
