The San Diego Padres are making a few final roster moves to trim their squad down to the MLB-required 26-man roster by Opening Day. Currently, the roster stands at 52, with more players facing the possibility of starting the season in minor league camp.

Manager Mike Shildt shared some disappointing news, revealing that two key pitchers are not expected to make the Opening Day roster. Both are recovering from injuries and will likely need more time before they’re ready.

In other pitcher news, right-hander Dylan Cease addressed ongoing trade rumors, clarifying his stance regarding the 2025 season.

Lastly, the Padres’ top-ranked prospect received high praise, with one of ESPN’s baseball insiders comparing him to a superstar shortstop. The switch-hitting prospect hopes to eventually make it to the majors and play at Petco Park.
