Major Insight as Auburn pegged as most delusional fanbase; don’t laugh Alabama, you aren’t far behind

Being delusional means having false beliefs or perceptions about reality, even when faced with undeniable evidence to the contrary.

According to Richard Foster from The Quick Report, no college football fanbase is more delusional than the Auburn Tigers.

With spring practice on the horizon, Foster took the opportunity to rank the 20 most delusional fanbases in the nation.

“Auburn fans exist in a world where they’re always ‘this close’ to overtaking Alabama and dominating the SEC,” he states. “They’re fixated on their revolving door of coaches, convinced that each new hire will be the one to lead them to glory.”

“And let’s not forget their annual tradition of believing they’ll defeat Alabama, regardless of their own team’s struggles.”

Now, Alabama fans, before you start chuckling and preparing for another round of banter, keep in mind your fanbase ranks at No. 6.

“While they have championships to support their claims, Bama fans feel entitled to a national title ‘every single year,’” Foster notes. “When they lose even a single game, it’s as if the sky is falling, with every sports radio caller in the state losing their cool.”

As a host of one of those daily sports radio shows, I can say that Foster’s assessments tend to be broad and somewhat stereotypical. While that doesn’t negate the notion of delusion, he doesn’t provide solid reasoning for these claims.

Sure, Tigers fans eagerly embrace each coaching change and are optimistic about competing against their biggest rival. Likewise, Crimson Tide fans expect victory in every game. In that regard, both fanbases are not all that different from many others across the country.

Interestingly, in my experience, fans often reflect analytically on their team’s performance after a loss. Many people here truly understand the game. Of course, there will always be a vocal minority whose opinions grab the spotlight.

Passionate? Definitely.

Delusional? That’s up for debate.
