The Los Angeles Chargers have added a new starting guard.

Late Friday night, the Chargers reached an agreement with free agent Mekhi Becton, addressing one of the team’s biggest needs in front of quarterback Justin Herbert.

According to Tim McManus of ESPN, Becton has signed a two-year deal and will take over as the starting guard for the Chargers.

There was some uncertainty about where Becton would land after his stint with the Philadelphia Eagles last season, where he transitioned to guard for the first time and played at a high level, even helping the team secure a Super Bowl win.

While this move strengthens the offensive line, the Chargers still need to address the other guard position and center, where veteran Bradley Bozeman is returning but doesn’t have a guaranteed starting spot for 2025.

For now, after keeping fans waiting, the Chargers have at least secured an upgrade at one guard position.
