West Virginia Forward Amani Hansberry Enters Transfer Portal

West Virginia loses another key player to the transfer portal. On Tuesday evening, sophomore forward Amani Hansberry announced he was entering the portal, as reported by Joe Tipton of On3 Sports.

The 6-foot-8 forward, who originally started his college career at Illinois, transferred to West Virginia. Over 31 games this season (24 starts), Hansberry averaged 9.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game, shooting 42.9% from the field and 29.2% from beyond the arc.

Although his shooting percentages weren’t ideal, there are reasons for that. Hansberry dealt with a foot injury early in the season, which affected his rhythm. Once he regained his form midseason, his ability to stretch the floor eased the offensive burden on Javon Small and provided the Mountaineers with another scoring option.

Hansberry is now the third player from West Virginia to enter the transfer portal, joining guards Jonathan Powell and KJ Tenner.
