Gunner Rivers, NC State Football Legacy Recruit, Visits Campus
The NC State football program recently hosted quarterback Gunner Rivers for his first unofficial visit to Raleigh.
Among the recruits visiting this week, one that quietly stood out was Gunner Rivers, a four-star quarterback from St. Michael Catholic High School in Alabama and the son of NC State legend Philip Rivers. A photo of Gunner and his father on campus was shared on social media by Inside Pack Sports’ Bryan Adams late Friday night.
At 6-foot-3 and 203 pounds, Gunner Rivers could be a valuable addition to head coach Dave Doeren’s team, potentially continuing his father’s legacy with the Wolfpack.
Philip Rivers had an iconic career at NC State, starting all four years, earning ACC Rookie of the Year, ACC Player of the Year honors, setting numerous NC State and ACC records, and having his No. 17 jersey retired. He was then selected as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers, where he went on to have a 17-year career.
Gunner Rivers currently ranks No. 48 nationally and No. 5 among quarterbacks in the 247Sports 2027 Composite. He has thrown for 7,024 yards and 65 touchdowns across his freshman and sophomore seasons while playing for his father, who is now the head coach at St. Michael Catholic.
As of now, Coach Doeren and the Wolfpack have yet to secure their first 2027 commitment.
