Arizona is Being Considered as a Possible Destination for a Transfer Running Back Who Used to Play in the SEC.

A report from Pete Nakos of On3 on Friday highlighted Arizona as one of the top five schools to monitor for the transfer of former Texas-San Antonio and Vanderbilt running back, Rocko Griffin.

On Friday, Pete Nakos from On3 mentioned that Arizona is among five schools that should be monitored for the upcoming transfer of Rocko Griffin, who previously played for Texas-San Antonio and Vanderbilt as a running back. Nakos mentions that Duke, Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, and Tulane are other schools Griffin will think about.

In 2024, Griffin rushed 17 times for a total of 44 yards across four games. By declaring his transfer at this time, Griffin can opt for a redshirt and preserve a year of eligibility by participating in just four games in 2024. In 12 games of the 2023 season, Griffin ran 91 times for 483 yards, scored six touchdowns, and averaged 5.3 yards per carry for Texas-San Antonio.

Griffin has accumulated 1,222 rushing yards, 11 touchdowns, and 23 receptions for 90 yards in segments of five college seasons with 299 carries. Griffin, a well-established running back in the power conference, accumulated 517 yards, four touchdowns, and made 10 receptions for 40 yards while playing for Vanderbilt in 2021. Arizona’s running back situation post-2024 is unclear.

Quali Conley, Arizona’s top rusher, is in his sole season of eligibility. Jacory Croskey-Merritt has not been able to participate in games after the victory against New Mexico due to an eligibility problem. Rayshon Luke is taking a redshirt year and will probably transfer after the 2024 season.

The upcoming Arizona RB seems to be Kedrick Reescano, a former four-star recruit who moved from Mississippi State in the 2024 offseason. Reescano ranks second in Arizona this season with 35 carries for 215 yards and one touchdown. Arizona has secured a commitment from three-star running back Wesley Yarborough for the 2025 season.

Griffin achieved three 100-yard games for Vanderbilt in 2023 against Stanford and in Mississippi and Tennessee in consecutive weeks at the conclusion of the season. Arizona will need to be highly involved in the transfer portal in the upcoming 2025 offseason. Arizona must focus on improving their offense as a top priority in the upcoming 2024-25 season.
