Bengals Predicted to Add Top Free-Agent Defender

The Cincinnati Bengals could make a major defensive addition during free agency, as the team has significant salary cap space to address weaknesses on that side of the ball.

According to Gilberto Manzano and Matt Verderame of Sports Illustrated, Cincinnati is viewed as a potential landing spot for John Franklin-Myers, currently a defensive tackle for the Denver Broncos.

Franklin-Myers, who began his career with the Los Angeles Rams before spending time with the New York Jets, revitalized his career in Denver. Under defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, he thrived alongside linemen Zach Allen and D. J. Jones, producing 14.5 combined sacks over the past two seasons. His play was a key factor in helping Denver secure the AFC’s top seed.

Sports Illustrated ranked Franklin-Myers as the ninth-best free agent available and projected he could command a three-year deal worth roughly $42 million.

Bengals Focused on Improving the Defensive Front

Strengthening the front seven appears to be a top offseason priority for Cincinnati. Director of player personnel Duke Tobin recently explained that the team is exploring multiple ways to improve its pass rush and overall defensive effectiveness.

Tobin emphasized that the Bengals are evaluating potential additions both in free agency and in the draft. He noted that while the team has promising young players on the roster, it is still looking for pieces that could elevate the defense within its scheme.

He also highlighted the importance of being strong on early downs to create more pass-rushing opportunities on third down, saying the organization is analyzing how new players might fit alongside the current roster and improve overall performance.

With the Bengals holding one of the league’s largest cap reserves, they appear well positioned to pursue impact defenders like Franklin-Myers as they attempt to strengthen their defensive line this offseason.
