NC State experienced a successful day on Thursday in the recruiting arena, securing two commitments, with the standout being highly sought-after interior offensive line prospect, Isaac Sowells Jr. Sowells opted for the Wolfpack over offers from Kentucky and South Carolina

That’s a significant recruiting victory for NC State, particularly since they managed to out-recruit Kentucky for a local prospect. Sowells, currently just outside the top-500 in the 247Sports Composite rankings, is now the second-highest-rated player in NC State’s 2025 class. The Wolfpack has been targeting him since last summer, and he could make an immediate impact at center when he arrives on campus.
Sowells’ high school plays in a conference where opponents often lack traditional size, leading to some entertaining highlights from his games.
In addition to Sowells, NC State has bolstered their defensive line with the addition of Mykah Newton, a Florida edge rusher who chose the Wolfpack over UCF and Michigan State. Interestingly, NC State has secured more recruits from Florida than from North Carolina this cycle, though this trend is likely to shift.
Newton, listed at 6’2″ and 255 pounds by 247Sports, might still have room to grow, according to their scouting report:
“He shows strong initial quickness and can excel with both speed and power. He adjusts his weight well while rounding the corner and maintains good control of his body. With experience in both two and three-point stances, he offers alignment flexibility. Being relatively young, his physique is still developing. Overall, he is projected as a potential multi-year contributor at the Power Five level.”
