Duke Blue Devils football Line Up Official Visit With 2027 Safety Target
Head coach Manny Diaz and the Blue Devils continue to stay aggressive on the 2027 recruiting trail, recently securing an official visit from one of their priority defensive back prospects.
Duke has been busy locking in official visits with several top targets, including in-state three-star safety Lance Henderson, who is set to visit Durham in June.

According to his advisor, Billy-Dee Greenwood of Empower Athlete Strategies, Henderson — a standout from Southern High School in Durham, North Carolina — has scheduled his official visit with Duke for June 12.
He joins a growing list of 2027 prospects planning to take official visits with the Blue Devils this spring, including four-star wide receiver Anthony Roberts and four-star linebacker Brandon Lockely Jr.
Beyond Duke, Henderson has other visits lined up with NC State Wolfpack football (May 8), Rutgers Scarlet Knights football (May 28), and Virginia Tech Hokies football (June 5).
Duke in the Mix
Henderson has long been on Duke’s radar. The Blue Devils extended an offer in March 2025 and later hosted him for an unofficial visit in September, helping establish a strong early connection.
Diaz and his staff are aiming to add multiple defensive backs in the 2027 cycle, and Henderson fits the mold. According to Rivals’ industry rankings, he is listed as the No. 472 overall prospect nationally, the No. 45 safety in the class, and the No. 20 player in North Carolina.
While Duke remains firmly in contention, the competition is stiff. Rivals’ Recruiting Prediction Machine currently lists NC State as the slight favorite, giving the Wolfpack a 36.8% chance to land Henderson, with Duke close behind at 21.6%.
Still, the upcoming official visit provides a key opportunity for the Blue Devils to strengthen their relationship and potentially gain ground before Henderson makes his decision. He has not yet announced a commitment date, but a choice is expected after his spring visits conclude.
If Diaz and his staff can capitalize on the June trip and continue building momentum, Duke could position itself strongly in the race for one of the top safeties in the 2027 class.
