Boom news! 25 Wide Receiver Sensation to commit to Oklahoma, (6’1 170) Deal

The Oklahoma Sooners secured their first verbal commitment since officially joining the SEC, and it’s an impressive addition! Highly skilled wide receiver Cortez Mills (6’1, 170 lbs) from Homestead, Florida, announced his commitment to Emmett Jones and the Oklahoma Sooners.

Led by wide receiver coach Emmett Jones, the Sooners seemingly emerged rapidly in the recruitment process and successfully secured Mills’ commitment, overcoming Clemson, which had a substantial lead prior to his visit to Oklahoma.

This commitment shouldn’t come as a surprise to our community, as back on June 18th, there were indications pointing towards Mills choosing Oklahoma. Prior to that, he was strongly leaning towards Clemson. Mills’ addition to the class brings the total number of wide receiver commits to five for the ’25 class, joining Marcus Harris, Elijah Thomas, Emmanuel Choice, and Gracen Harris. On paper, Mills appears to be the most impressive addition to this already strong and diverse group of recruits.

The Sooners are gaining a dynamic playmaker known for exceptional body control and outstanding hands. While he possesses speed and agility, his exceptional hands and athleticism set him apart, providing him with an extensive catch radius. Mills, who holds around three dozen offers, including those from all the Florida schools, ultimately chose OU over Clemson, a significant head-to-head victory for Oklahoma.

Emmett Jones’ persistence in building a relationship with Mills since offering him in January of ’24 paid off, culminating in Mills’ visit to Norman in mid-June. Following this visit, things quickly turned in OU’s favor as Mills bonded with fellow WR Marcus Harris and other OU commits, experiencing the welcoming atmosphere in Norman.

This recruitment victory is a significant accomplishment for OU on the field, given Mills’ status as one of the top receivers in the country for this cycle. Additionally, it represents a notable triumph over Clemson and the Florida schools in recruiting a player from Florida, showcasing Emmett Jones’ effectiveness in the process.
