Breaking: Baltimore Orioles Reportedly Sign Veteran Utilityman to Deal

The Baltimore Orioles are experiencing a tense period as they face unexpected struggles after a season of dominating performances.

Injuries have significantly impacted the team. With three of their starting pitchers already sidelined for the season due to surgeries, the situation worsened when Grayson Rodriguez had to leave the current road trip due to a reported lat injury.

As of Wednesday, the Orioles are trailing the New York Yankees by half a game in the AL East standings.

In an effort to strengthen their roster for the final two months of the season, the Orioles have decided to add a veteran utility player.

According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, the Orioles have signed J.D. Davis. The specifics of the deal were not disclosed, but it is likely a minor league contract.

Davis was last with the Yankees, who acquired him from the Oakland Athletics on June 23. He played only seven games with New York before being released four days after being designated for assignment.

Despite a dip in performance this season, with a .218/.293/.338 slash line and just four home runs and six RBIs in 46 games, Davis is a low-risk addition for Baltimore. He has a history of five consecutive seasons with an OPS+ above the league average of 100 and could provide valuable experience if further injuries occur.

While this acquisition might not be transformative, it does add depth to the Orioles’ roster.
