California WR Legend Lyons details his Minnesota Football commitment

In the fall of 2024, Legend Lyons, a wide receiver from Covina, California, quickly gained attention with his impressive performance as a junior, catching 74 passes for almost 1,000 yards. This led to early offers from colleges including Kansas, Utah, Arkansas, Washington State, and Oregon State. However, he ultimately committed to a Big Ten school, Minnesota, after an official visit.

Lyons cited Coach Fleck’s leadership and the strong team camaraderie as key factors in his decision. During his visit, he was impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and felt like he was already part of the team, especially with the support of wide receiver TJ McWilliams, who will be a role model for him when he joins the campus.

“Interacting with Coach Fleck was really great. He projected a serious and professional vibe,” Lyons elaborated. “I’ve concluded my recruiting journey. I won’t be visiting Kansas or Utah. I want Gopher fans to understand that I aim to bring leadership and physicality to my game, whether it’s catching the ball, running routes, or gaining yards after the catch.”

The West Coast analyst for 247Sports, Greg Biggins, also provided his assessment of Lyons.

Lyons is versatile in his abilities, but his recruitment has mostly focused on his role as a wide receiver, which is the position he will also play at Minnesota. Standing at 6-2 and weighing 190 pounds, Lyons possesses a lanky and agile build, along with reliable hands and impressive body control. He is known for his toughness and willingness to make plays in contested spaces, and he excels in gaining yardage after receptions.

He is robust in catching the ball amidst defensive pressure and consistently breaks through 2-3 tackles when in open space. Additionally, he demonstrates adept ball adjustments, natural coordination between his hands and eyes, and possesses all the attributes necessary to be a starting player for multiple years at a high-level Power 4 program.
